Chapter 89
31If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments, 32Then I will punish their wrongdoing with the rod, And their guilt with afflictions. 33But I will not withhold My favor from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. 34I will not violate My covenant, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. 35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. 36His descendants shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me. 37It shall be established forever like the moon, And a witness in the sky is faithful.' Selah 38But You have rejected and refused, You have been full of wrath against Your anointed. 39You have repudiated the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown in the dust. 40You have broken down all his walls; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. 41All who pass along the way plunder him; He has become a disgrace to his neighbors. 42You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice. 43You also turn back the edge of his sword, And have not made him stand in battle. 44You have put an end to his splendor And cast his throne to the ground. 45You have shortened the days of his youth; You have covered him with shame. Selah 46How long, Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath burn like fire? 47Remember what my lifespan is; For what futility You have created all the sons of mankind! 48What man can live and not see death? Chapter 89
31If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; 32Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. 33Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. 34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. 35Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. 36His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. 37It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
38But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
39Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
40Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
41All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
42Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
43Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
44Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
45The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
46How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
47Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
48What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

31if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands, 32then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows. 33But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness. 34I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said. 35Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David. 36His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me,
37like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah
38But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed.
39You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown.
40You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins.
41All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors.
42You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
43You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle.
44You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne.

Chapter 89
31if they do not obey my decrees and fail to keep my commands, 32then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their disobedience with beating. 33But I will never stop loving him nor fail to keep my promise to him. 34No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said. 35I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie: 36His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun.
38But now you have rejected him and cast him off. You are angry with your anointed king.
39You have renounced your covenant with him; you have thrown his crown in the dust.
40You have broken down the walls protecting him and ruined every fort defending him.
41Everyone who comes along has robbed him, and he has become a joke to his neighbors.
42You have strengthened his enemies and made them all rejoice.
43You have made his sword useless and refused to help him in battle.
44You have ended his splendor and overturned his throne.

37it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.'
