Chapter 89
1I will sing of the graciousness of the Lord forever; To all generations I will make Your faithfulness known with my mouth. 2For I have said, 'Graciousness will be built up forever; In the heavens You will establish Your faithfulness.' 3'I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to My servant David, 4I will establish your descendants forever And build up your throne to all generations.' Selah 5The heavens will praise Your wonders, Lord; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. 6For who in the skies is comparable to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the Lord, 7A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, And awesome above all those who are around Him? 8Lord God of armies, who is like You, mighty Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. 9You rule the surging of the sea; When its waves rise, You calm them. 10You Yourself crushed Rahab like one who is slain; You scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm. 11The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have established them. 12The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name. 13You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted. 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before You. 15Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! Lord, they walk in the light of Your face. 16In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted. 17For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted. 18For our shield belongs to the Lord, And our king to the Holy One of Israel. 19 Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ones, And said, 'I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 20I have found My servant David; With My holy oil I have anointed him, 21With whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him. 22The enemy will not deceive him, Nor will the son of wickedness afflict him. 23But I will crush his adversaries before him, And strike those who hate him. 24My faithfulness and My favor will be with him, And in My name his horn will be exalted. 25I will also place his hand on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers. 26He will call to Me, ‘You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’ 27I will also make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. 28I will maintain My favor for him forever, And My covenant shall be confirmed to him. 29So I will establish his descendants forever, And his throne as the days of heaven. 30'If his sons abandon My Law And do not walk in My judgments, 31If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments, 32Then I will punish their wrongdoing with the rod, And their guilt with afflictions. 33But I will not withhold My favor from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. 34I will not violate My covenant, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. 35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. 36His descendants shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me. 37It shall be established forever like the moon, And a witness in the sky is faithful.' Chapter 89
1{Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.} I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. 2For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. 3I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, 4Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
5And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
6For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
7God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
8O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
9Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
10Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
11The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
12The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
13Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
14Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
15Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
16In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
17For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
18For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
19Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
21With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
22The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.
24But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
25I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
26He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
27Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
28My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
29His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
31If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
32Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
33Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
35Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
36His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
37It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

2For I will declare, "Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens."
3The Lord said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant:
4I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.' " Selah
5Lord, the heavens praise your wonders -- your faithfulness also -- in the assembly of the holy ones.
6For who in the skies can compare with the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord?
7God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him.
8Lord God of Armies, who is strong like you, Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
9You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them.
10You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm.

13You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high.
14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you.
15Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; Lord, they walk in the light from your face.
16They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness.
17For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
18Surely our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
19You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said, "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
20I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil.
21My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him.
22The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him.
23I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him.
24My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
25I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers.
26He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.'
27I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth.
28I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure.
29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts.
30If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances,
31if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands,
32then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows.
33But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness.
34I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said.
35Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
36His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me,

Chapter 89
1 I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness. 2Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.
4‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever; they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’' Interlude
5All heaven will praise your great wonders, Lord; myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.
6For who in all of heaven can compare with the Lord? What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord?
7The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne.
8O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O Lord? You are entirely faithful.
9You rule the oceans. You subdue their storm-tossed waves.
10You crushed the great sea monster. You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours — you created it all.
12You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.
13Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.
14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.
15Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
16They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation. They exult in your righteousness.
17You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong.
18Yes, our protection comes from the Lord, and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.
19Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said, 'I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.
20I have found my servant David. I have anointed him with my holy oil.
21I will steady him with my hand; with my powerful arm I will make him strong.
22His enemies will not defeat him, nor will the wicked overpower him.
23I will beat down his adversaries before him and destroy those who hate him.
24My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power.
25I will extend his rule over the sea, his dominion over the rivers.
26And he will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
27I will make him my firstborn son, the mightiest king on earth.
28I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end.
29I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven.
30But if his descendants forsake my instructions and fail to obey my regulations,
31if they do not obey my decrees and fail to keep my commands,
32then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their disobedience with beating.
33But I will never stop loving him nor fail to keep my promise to him.
34No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.
35I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie:
36His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun.

5The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
