Chapter 78
7So that they would put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But comply with His commandments, 8And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God. 9The sons of Ephraim were archers equipped with bows, Yet they turned back on the day of battle. 10They did not keep the covenant of God And refused to walk in His Law; 11They forgot His deeds And His miracles that He had shown them. 12He performed wonders before their fathers In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 13He divided the sea and caused them to pass through, And He made the waters stand up like a heap. 14Then He led them with the cloud by day And all the night with a light of fire. 15He split the rocks in the wilderness And gave them plenty to drink like the ocean depths. 16He brought forth streams from the rock And made waters run down like rivers. 17Yet they still continued to sin against Him, To rebel against the Most High in the desert. 18And in their heart they put God to the test By asking for food that suited their taste. 19Then they spoke against God; They said, 'Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? 20Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed out, And streams were overflowing; Can He also provide bread? Will He prepare meat for His people?' 21Therefore the Lord heard and was full of wrath; And a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also mounted against Israel, 22Because they did not believe in God And did not trust in His salvation. 23Yet He commanded the clouds above And opened the doors of heaven; 24He rained down manna upon them to eat, And gave them food from heaven. 25Man ate the bread of angels; He sent them food in abundance. 26He made the east wind blow in the sky And by His power He directed the south wind. 27When He rained meat upon them like the dust, Even winged fowl like the sand of the seas, 28He let them fall in the midst of their camp, All around their dwellings. 29So they ate and were well filled, And He satisfied their longing. 30 Yet before they had abandoned their longing, While their food was in their mouths, 31The anger of God rose against them And killed some of their strongest ones, And subdued the choice men of Israel. 32In spite of all this they still sinned And did not believe in His wonderful works. 33So He brought their days to an end in futility, And their years to an end in sudden terror. 34When He killed them, then they sought Him, And they returned and searched diligently for God; 35And they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer. 36But they flattered Him with their mouth And lied to Him with their tongue. 37For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, Nor were they faithful with His covenant. 38But He, being compassionate, forgave their wrongdoing and did not destroy them; And often He restrained His anger And did not stir up all His wrath.King James Version
Chapter 78

9The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
12Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
19Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
26He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God.
35And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

9The Ephraimite archers turned back on the day of battle.
10They did not keep God's covenant and refused to live by his law.
11They forgot what he had done, the wondrous works he had shown them.
12He worked wonders in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, the territory of Zoan.
13He split the sea and brought them across; the water stood firm like a wall.
14He led them with a cloud by day and with a fiery light throughout the night.
15He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as abundant as the depths.
16He brought streams out of the stone and made water flow down like rivers.
17But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the desert against the Most High.
18They deliberately tested God, demanding the food they craved.
19They spoke against God, saying, "Is God able to provide food in the wilderness?
20Look! He struck the rock and water gushed out; torrents overflowed. But can he also provide bread or furnish meat for his people? "
21Therefore, the Lord heard and became furious; then fire broke out against Jacob, and anger flared up against Israel
22because they did not believe God or rely on his salvation.
23He gave a command to the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven.
24He rained manna for them to eat; he gave them grain from heaven.
25People ate the bread of angels. He sent them an abundant supply of food.
26He made the east wind blow in the skies and drove the south wind by his might.
27He rained meat on them like dust, and winged birds like the sand of the seas.
28He made them fall in the camp, all around the tents.
29The people ate and were completely satisfied, for he gave them what they craved.
30Before they had turned from what they craved, while the food was still in their mouths,
31God's anger flared up against them, and he killed some of their best men. He struck down Israel's fit young men.
32Despite all this, they kept sinning and did not believe his wondrous works.
33He made their days end in futility, their years in sudden disaster.
34When he killed some of them, the rest began to seek him; they repented and searched for God.
35They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their Redeemer.
36But they deceived him with their mouths, they lied to him with their tongues,
37their hearts were insincere toward him, and they were unfaithful to his covenant.
38Yet he was compassionate; he atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them. He often turned his anger aside and did not unleash all his wrath.

7So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. 8Then they will not be like their ancestors — stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
9The warriors of Ephraim, though armed with bows, turned their backs and fled on the day of battle.
10They did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his instructions.
11They forgot what he had done — the great wonders he had shown them,
12the miracles he did for their ancestors on the plain of Zoan in the land of Egypt.
13For he divided the sea and led them through, making the water stand up like walls!
14In the daytime he led them by a cloud, and all night by a pillar of fire.
15He split open the rocks in the wilderness to give them water, as from a gushing spring.
16He made streams pour from the rock, making the waters flow down like a river!
17Yet they kept on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18They stubbornly tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved.
19They even spoke against God himself, saying, 'God can’t give us food in the wilderness.
20Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out, but he can’t give his people bread and meat.'
21When the Lord heard them, he was furious. The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob. Yes, his anger rose against Israel,
22for they did not believe God or trust him to care for them.
23But he commanded the skies to open; he opened the doors of heaven.
24He rained down manna for them to eat; he gave them bread from heaven.
25They ate the food of angels! God gave them all they could hold.
26He released the east wind in the heavens and guided the south wind by his mighty power.
27He rained down meat as thick as dust — birds as plentiful as the sand on the seashore!
28He caused the birds to fall within their camp and all around their tents.
29The people ate their fill. He gave them what they craved.
30But before they satisfied their craving, while the meat was yet in their mouths,
31the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men. He struck down the finest of Israel’s young men.
32But in spite of this, the people kept sinning. Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.
33So he ended their lives in failure, their years in terror.
34When God began killing them, they finally sought him. They repented and took God seriously.
35Then they remembered that God was their rock, that God Most High was their redeemer.
36But all they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues.
37Their hearts were not loyal to him. They did not keep his covenant.
38Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins and did not destroy them all. Many times he held back his anger and did not unleash his fury!

12He did miracles in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.

14He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night.

16he brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers.

34Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.
35They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.
36But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues;
37their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant.
