Psalms 41:1-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 41
1
Blessed is one who considers the helpless;
The
Lord
will save him on a day of trouble.
2
The
Lord
will protect him and keep him alive,
And he will be called blessed upon the earth;
And do not turn him over to the desire of his enemies.
3
The
Lord
will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You restore him to health.
4
As for me, I said, '
Lord
, be gracious to me;
Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.'
5
My enemies speak evil against me,
'When will he die, and his name perish?'
6
And when he comes to see
me,
he speaks empty words;
His heart gathers wickedness to itself;
When he goes outside, he tells it.
7
All who hate me whisper together against me;
They plot my harm against me,
saying,
8
'A wicked thing is poured out upon him,
So that when he lies down, he will not get up again.'
9
Even my close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.
King James Version
Chapter 41
1
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the
Lord
will deliver him in time of trouble.
2
The
Lord
will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
3
The
Lord
will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
4
I said,
Lord
, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
5
Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
6
And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
7
All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
8
An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
9
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 41
1
For the choir director. A psalm of David.
Happy is one who is considerate of the poor;
the
Lord
will save him in a day of adversity.
2
The
Lord
will keep him and preserve him;
he will be blessed in the land.
You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies.
3
The
Lord
will sustain him on his sickbed;
you will heal him on the bed where he lies.
4
I said, "
Lord
, be gracious to me;
heal me, for I have sinned against you."
5
My enemies speak maliciously about me:
"When will he die and be forgotten?"
6
When one of them comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully;
he stores up evil in his heart;
he goes out and talks.
7
All who hate me whisper together about me;
they plan to harm me.
8
"Something awful has overwhelmed him,
and he won’t rise again from where he lies!"
9
Even my friend in whom I trusted,
one who ate my bread,
has raised his heel against me.
New Living Translation
Chapter 41
1
Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!
The
Lord
rescues them when they are in trouble.
2
The
Lord
protects them
and keeps them alive.
He gives them prosperity in the land
and rescues them from their enemies.
3
The
Lord
nurses them when they are sick
and restores them to health.
4
'O
Lord
,' I prayed, 'have mercy on me.
Heal me, for I have sinned against you.'
5
But my enemies say nothing but evil about me.
'How soon will he die and be forgotten?' they ask.
6
They visit me as if they were my friends,
but all the while they gather gossip,
and when they leave, they spread it everywhere.
7
All who hate me whisper about me,
imagining the worst.
8
'He has some fatal disease,' they say.
'He will never get out of that bed!'
9
Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely,
the one who shared my food, has turned against me.

Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;

they are counted among the blessed in the land—
he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.
