Chapter 12

1 Help, Lord, for the godly person has come to an end, For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind. 2They speak lies to one another; They speak with flattering lips and a double heart. 3May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaks great things; 4Who have said, 'With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?' 5'Because of the devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise,' says the Lord; 'I will put him in the safety for which he longs.' 6The words of the Lord are pure words; Like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times. 7You, Lord, will keep them; You will protect him from this generation forever.

Chapter 12

1To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
5For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
6The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

5"Because of the devastation of the needy and the groaning of the poor, I will now rise up," says the Lord. "I will provide safety for the one who longs for it."

Our lips are our own — who can stop us?'
5The Lord replies, 'I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.' 6The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. 7Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,

4those who say, "By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?" 5"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the Lord. "I will protect them from those who malign them."
