Chapter 106

16When they became envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord, 17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the company of Abiram. 18And a fire blazed up in their company; The flame consumed the wicked. 19They made a calf in Horeb, And worshiped a cast metal image. 20So they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass. 21They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, 22 Wonders in the land of Ham, And awesome things by the Red Sea. 23Therefore He said that He would destroy them, If Moses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them. 24Then they rejected the pleasant land; They did not believe His word, 25But grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the Lord. 26Therefore He swore to them That He would have them fall in the wilderness, 27And that He would bring down their descendants among the nations, And scatter them in the lands. 28They also followed Baal-peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead. 29So they provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And a plague broke out among them.

Chapter 106

16They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD. 17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. 18And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. 19They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. 20Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. 21They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; 22Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. 23Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. 24Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: 25But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. 26Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: 27To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. 28They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. 29Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

18Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked. 19At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image. 20They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox. 21They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, 22wondrous works in the land of Ham, awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea.
23So he said he would have destroyed them -- if Moses his chosen one had not stood before him in the breach to turn his wrath away from destroying them. 24They despised the pleasant land and did not believe his promise. 25They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the Lord. 26So he raised his hand against them with an oath that he would make them fall in the desert
27and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them throughout the lands. 28They aligned themselves with Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. 29They angered the Lord with their deeds, and a plague broke out against them.

Chapter 106

16The people in the camp were jealous of Moses and envious of Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest. 17Because of this, the earth opened up; it swallowed Dathan and buried Abiram and the other rebels. 18Fire fell upon their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.
19The people made a calf at Mount Sinai ; they bowed before an image made of gold. 20They traded their glorious God for a statue of a grass-eating bull. 21They forgot God, their savior, who had done such great things in Egypt — 22such wonderful things in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Red Sea. 23So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the Lord and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.
24The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them. 25Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord. 26Therefore, he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the wilderness, 27that he would scatter their descendants among the nations, exiling them to distant lands.
28Then our ancestors joined in the worship of Baal at Peor; they even ate sacrifices offered to the dead! 29They angered the Lord with all these things, so a plague broke out among them.
