Psalms 101-105
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 101
1I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, Lord, I will sing praises. 2I will carefully attend to the blameless way. When will You come to me? I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart. 3I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. 4A perverse heart shall leave me; I will know no evil. 5Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy; I will not endure one who has a haughty look and an arrogant heart. 6My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; One who walks in a blameless way is one who will serve me. 7One who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house; One who speaks lies shall not maintain his position before me. 8Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, So as to eliminate from the city of the Lord all those who do injustice.Chapter 102
1 Hear my prayer, Lord! And let my cry for help come to You. 2Do not hide Your face from me on the day of my distress; Incline Your ear to me; On the day when I call answer me quickly. 3For my days have ended in smoke, And my bones have been scorched like a hearth. 4My heart has been struck like grass and has withered, Indeed, I forget to eat my bread. 5Because of the loudness of my groaning My bones cling to my flesh. 6I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the ruins. 7I lie awake, I have become like a solitary bird on a housetop. 8My enemies have taunted me all day long; Those who deride me have used my name as a curse. 9For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mixed my drink with weeping 10Because of Your indignation and Your wrath; For You have lifted me up and thrown me away. 11My days are like a lengthened shadow, And I wither away like grass. 12But You, Lord, remain forever, And Your name remains to all generations. 13You will arise and have compassion on Zion; For it is time to be gracious to her, For the appointed time has come. 14Surely Your servants take pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust. 15 So the nations will fear the name of the Lord, And all the kings of the earth, Your glory. 16For the Lord has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory. 17He has turned His attention to the prayer of the destitute And has not despised their prayer. 18 This will be written for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created may praise the Lord: 19For He looked down from His holy height; From heaven the Lord looked upon the earth, 20To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To set free those who were doomed to death, 21So that people may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem, 22When the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord. 23He has broken my strength in the way; He has shortened my days. 24I say, 'My God, do not take me away in the middle of my days, Your years are throughout all generations. 25In time of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 26 Even they will perish, but You endure; All of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will pass away. 27But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. 28The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You.'Chapter 103
1Bless the Lord, my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. 2Bless the Lord, my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits; 3Who pardons all your guilt, Who heals all your diseases; 4Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with favor and compassion; 5Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. 6The Lord performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed. 7He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the sons of Israel. 8The Lord is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in mercy. 9He will not always contend with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds. 11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. 12As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our wrongdoings from us. 13Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. 14For He Himself knows our form; He is mindful that we are nothing but dust. 15As for man, his days are like grass; Like a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place no longer knows about it. 17But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting for those who fear Him, And His justice to the children’s children, 18To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts, so as to do them. 19The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. 20Bless the Lord, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! 21Bless the Lord, all you His angels, You who serve Him, doing His will. 22Bless the Lord, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the Lord, my soul!Chapter 104
1Bless the Lord, my soul! Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. 3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks on the wings of the wind; 4 He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers. 5He established the earth upon its foundations, So that it will not totter forever and ever. 6You covered it with the deep sea as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains. 7They fled from Your rebuke, At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away. 8The mountains rose; the valleys sank down To the place which You established for them. 9You set a boundary so that they will not pass over, So that they will not return to cover the earth. 10 He sends forth springs in the valleys; They flow between the mountains; 11They give drink to every animal of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12The birds of the sky dwell beside them; They lift up their voices from among the branches. 13 He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works. 14 He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, And vegetation for the labor of mankind, So that they may produce food from the earth, 15And wine, which makes a human heart cheerful, So that he makes his face gleam with oil, And food, which sustains a human heart. 16The trees of the Lord drink their fill, The cedars of Lebanon which He planted, 17Where the birds build their nests, And the stork, whose home is the juniper trees. 18The high mountains are for the wild goats; The cliffs are a refuge for the rock hyrax. 19He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting. 20You appoint darkness and it becomes night, In which all the animals of the forest prowl about. 21The young lions roar for their prey And seek their food from God. 22 When the sun rises they withdraw, And they lie down in their dens. 23A person goes out to his work And to his labor until evening. 24Lord, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your possessions. 25 There is the sea, great and broad, In which are swarms without number, Animals both small and great. 26The ships move along there, And Leviathan, which You have formed to have fun in it. 27They all wait for You To give them their food in due season. 28You give to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good. 29You hide Your face, they are terrified; You take away their breath, they perish And return to their dust. 30You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the ground. 31May the glory of the Lord endure forever; May the Lord rejoice in His works; 32 He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. 33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34May my praise be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall rejoice in the Lord. 35May sinners be removed from the earth And may the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord!Chapter 105
1Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make His deeds known among the peoples. 2Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Tell of all His wonders. 3Boast in His holy name; May the heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful. 4Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually. 5Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments spoken by His mouth, 6You descendants of Abraham, His servant, You sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! 7He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth. 8He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, 9 The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. 10Then He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, 11Saying, 'To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance,' 12When they were only a few people in number, Very few, and strangers in it. 13And they wandered from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people, 14He allowed no one to oppress them, And He rebuked kings for their sakes, saying, 15'Do not touch My anointed ones, And do not harm My prophets.' 16And He called for a famine upon the land; He broke the whole staff of bread. 17He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. 18They forced his feet into shackles, He was put in irons; 19Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord refined him. 20The king sent and released him, The ruler of peoples, and set him free. 21He made him lord of his house, And ruler over all his possessions, 22To imprison his high officials at will, That he might teach his elders wisdom. 23Israel also came into Egypt; So Jacob lived in the land of Ham. 24And He made His people very fruitful, And made them stronger than their enemies. 25He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal cunningly with His servants. 26He sent His servant Moses, And Aaron, whom He had chosen. 27They performed His wondrous acts among them, And miracles in the land of Ham. 28He sent darkness and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His words. 29He turned their waters into blood, And caused their fish to die. 30Their land swarmed with frogs Even in the chambers of their kings. 31He spoke, and a swarm of flies And gnats invaded all their territory. 32He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land. 33He also struck their vines and their fig trees, And smashed the trees of their territory. 34He spoke, and locusts came, And creeping locusts, beyond number, 35And they ate all the vegetation in their land, And ate the fruit of their ground. 36He also fatally struck all the firstborn in their land, The first fruits of all their vigor. 37Then He brought the Israelites out with silver and gold, And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled. 38Egypt was glad when they departed, For the dread of them had fallen upon the Egyptians. 39He spread out a cloud as a covering, And fire to illumine by night. 40 They asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41He opened the rock and water flowed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. 42For He remembered His holy word With His servant Abraham; 43And He led out His people with joy, His chosen ones with a joyful shout. 44He also gave them the lands of the nations, So that they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor, 45 And that they might keep His statutes And comply with His laws; Praise the Lord!King James Version
Chapter 103
1A Psalm of David. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.Chapter 104
1Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 101
1A psalm of David. I will sing of faithful love and justice; I will sing praise to you, Lord. 2I will pay attention to the way of integrity. When will you come to me? I will live with a heart of integrity in my house. 3I will not let anything worthless guide me. I hate the practice of transgression; it will not cling to me.
4A devious heart will be far from me; I will not be involved with evil.
5I will destroy anyone who secretly slanders his neighbor; I cannot tolerate anyone with haughty eyes or an arrogant heart.
6My eyes favor the faithful of the land so that they may sit down with me. The one who follows the way of integrity may serve me.
7No one who acts deceitfully will live in my palace; the one who tells lies will not be retained here to guide me.
8Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, wiping out all evildoers from the Lord’s city.
2Do not hide your face from me in my day of trouble. Listen closely to me; answer me quickly when I call.
3For my days vanish like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.
4My heart is suffering, withered like grass; I even forget to eat my food.
5Because of the sound of my groaning, my flesh sticks to my bones.
6I am like an eagle owl, like a little owl among the ruins.
7I stay awake; I am like a solitary bird on a roof.
8My enemies taunt me all day long; they ridicule and use my name as a curse.
9I eat ashes like bread and mingle my drinks with tears
10because of your indignation and wrath; for you have picked me up and thrown me aside.
11My days are like a lengthening shadow, and I wither away like grass.
12But you, Lord, are enthroned forever; your fame endures to all generations.
13You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her— the appointed time has come.
14For your servants take delight in its stones and favor its dust.
15Then the nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth your glory,
16for the Lord will rebuild Zion; he will appear in his glory.
17He will pay attention to the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer.
18This will be written for a later generation, and a people who have not yet been created will praise the Lord:
19He looked down from his holy heights— the Lord gazed out from heaven to earth —
20to hear a prisoner’s groaning, to set free those condemned to die,
21so that they might declare the name of the Lord in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem,
22when peoples and kingdoms are assembled to serve the Lord.
23He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days.
24I say: "My God, do not take me in the middle of my life! Your years continue through all generations.
25Long ago you established the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26They will perish, but you will endure; all of them will wear out like clothing. You will change them like a garment, and they will pass away.
27But you are the same, and your years will never end.
28Your servants’ children will dwell securely, and their offspring will be established before you."
2My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits.
3He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases.
4He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
5He satisfies you with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle.
6The Lord executes acts of righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7He revealed his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel.
8The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love.
9He will not always accuse us or be angry forever.
10He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our iniquities.
11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his faithful love toward those who fear him.
12As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.
14For he knows what we are made of, remembering that we are dust.
15As for man, his days are like grass— he blooms like a flower of the field;
16when the wind passes over it, it vanishes, and its place is no longer known.
17But from eternity to eternity the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear him, and his righteousness toward the grandchildren
18of those who keep his covenant, who remember to observe his precepts.
19The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
20Bless the Lord, all his angels of great strength, who do his word, obedient to his command.
21Bless the Lord, all his armies, his servants who do his will.
22Bless the Lord, all his works in all the places where he rules. My soul, bless the Lord!
Chapter 104
1My soul, bless the Lord! Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with majesty and splendor. 2He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, 3laying the beams of his palace on the waters above, making the clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind,
4and making the winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.
5He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken.
6You covered it with the deep as if it were a garment; the water stood above the mountains.
7At your rebuke the water fled; at the sound of your thunder they hurried away —
8mountains rose and valleys sank — to the place you established for them.
9You set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never cover the earth again.
10He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains.
11They supply water for every wild beast; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12The birds of the sky live beside the springs; they make their voices heard among the foliage.
13He waters the mountains from his palace; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of your labor.
14He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth,
15wine that makes human hearts glad— making his face shine with oil— and bread that sustains human hearts.
16The trees of the Lord flourish, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17There the birds make their nests; storks make their homes in the pine trees.
18The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for hyraxes.
19He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set.
20You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals stir.
21The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.
22The sun rises; they go back and lie down in their dens.
23Man goes out to his work and to his labor until evening.
24How countless are your works, Lord! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.
26There the ships move about, and Leviathan, which you formed to play there.
27All of them wait for you to give them their food at the right time.
28When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30When you send your breath, they are created, and you renew the surface of the ground.
31May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works.
32He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke.
33I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.
34May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the Lord.
35May sinners vanish from the earth and wicked people be no more. My soul, bless the Lord! Hallelujah!
Chapter 105
1Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples. 2Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works! 3Honor his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 4Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 5Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,
6you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob’s descendants—his chosen ones.
7He is the Lord our God; his judgments govern the whole earth.
8He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations —
9the covenant he made with Abraham, swore to Isaac,
10and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as a permanent covenant:
11"I will give the land of Canaan to you as your inherited portion."
12When they were few in number, very few indeed, and resident aliens in Canaan,
13wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another,
14he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their behalf:
15"Do not touch my anointed ones, or harm my prophets."
16He called down famine against the land and destroyed the entire food supply.
17He had sent a man ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
18They hurt his feet with shackles; his neck was put in an iron collar.
19Until the time his prediction came true, the word of the Lord tested him.
20The king sent for him and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free.
21He made him master of his household, ruler over all his possessions —
22binding his officials at will and instructing his elders.
23Then Israel went to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.
24The Lord made his people very fruitful; he made them more numerous than their foes,
25whose hearts he turned to hate his people and to deal deceptively with his servants.
26He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27They performed his miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
28He sent darkness, and it became dark— for did they not defy his commands?
29He turned their water into blood and caused their fish to die.
30Their land was overrun with frogs, even in their royal chambers.
31He spoke, and insects came — gnats throughout their country.
32He gave them hail for rain, and lightning throughout their land.
33He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their territory.
34He spoke, and locusts came— young locusts without number.
35They devoured all the vegetation in their land and consumed the produce of their land.
36He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny.
37Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled.
38Egypt was glad when they left, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them.
39He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night.
40They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven.
41He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert.
42For he remembered his holy promise to Abraham his servant.
43He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.
New Living Translation
Chapter 101
1I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs. 2I will be careful to live a blameless life — when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. 3I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. 4I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. 5I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride.
6I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.
7I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.
8My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.
Chapter 102
1Lord, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea! 2Don’t turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you. 3For my days disappear like smoke, and my bones burn like red-hot coals. 4My heart is sick, withered like grass, and I have lost my appetite. 5Because of my groaning, I am reduced to skin and bones. 6I am like an owl in the desert, like a little owl in a far-off wilderness. 7I lie awake, lonely as a solitary bird on the roof. 8My enemies taunt me day after day. They mock and curse me. 9I eat ashes for food. My tears run down into my drink 10because of your anger and wrath. For you have picked me up and thrown me out. 11My life passes as swiftly as the evening shadows. I am withering away like grass.
12But you, O Lord, will sit on your throne forever. Your fame will endure to every generation.
13You will arise and have mercy on Jerusalem — and now is the time to pity her, now is the time you promised to help.
14For your people love every stone in her walls and cherish even the dust in her streets.
15Then the nations will tremble before the Lord. The kings of the earth will tremble before his glory.
16For the Lord will rebuild Jerusalem. He will appear in his glory.
17He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas.
18Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord.
19Tell them the Lord looked down from his heavenly sanctuary. He looked down to earth from heaven
20to hear the groans of the prisoners, to release those condemned to die.
21And so the Lord’s fame will be celebrated in Zion, his praises in Jerusalem,
22when multitudes gather together and kingdoms come to worship the Lord.
23He broke my strength in midlife, cutting short my days.
24But I cried to him, 'O my God, who lives forever, don’t take my life while I am so young!
25Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands.
26They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them.
27But you are always the same; you will live forever.
28The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence.'
Chapter 103
1Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
7He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.
8The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
10He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
13The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
14For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.
15Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.
16The wind blows, and we are gone — as though we had never been here.
17But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children
18of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!
20Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands.
21Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will!
Chapter 104
1Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. 2You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; 3you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind. 4The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants.
5You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved.
6You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains.
7At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away.
8Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed.
9Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth.
10You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains.
11They provide water for all the animals, and the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees.
13You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.
14You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth —
15wine to make them glad, olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength.
16The trees of the Lord are well cared for — the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17There the birds make their nests, and the storks make their homes in the cypresses.
18High in the mountains live the wild goats, and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes.
19You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set.
20You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about.
21Then the young lions roar for their prey, stalking the food provided by God.
22At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest.
23Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening.
24O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.
25Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small.
26See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea.
27They all depend on you to give them food as they need it.
28When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied.
29But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust.
30When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.
31May the glory of the Lord continue forever! The Lord takes pleasure in all he has made!
32The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch.
33I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!
34May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.
Chapter 105
1Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. 2Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. 3Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord. 4Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. 5Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, 6you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7He is the Lord our God. His justice is seen throughout the land.
8He always stands by his covenant — the commitment he made to a thousand generations.
9This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.
10He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant:
11'I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.'
12He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan.
13They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
14Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf:
15'Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.'
16He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply.
17Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them — Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
18They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar.
19Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.
20Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door.
21Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions.
22He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers.
23Then Israel arrived in Egypt; Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
24And the Lord multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies.
25Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the Lord’s servants.
26But the Lord sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians, and wonders in the land of Ham.
28The Lord blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go.
29He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish.
30Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king’s bedrooms.
31When the Lord spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt.
32He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land.
33He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees.
34He spoke, and hordes of locusts came — young locusts beyond number.
35They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops in their fields.
36Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family.
37The Lord brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled.
38Egypt was glad when they were gone, for they feared them greatly.
39The Lord spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness.
40They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he satisfied their hunger with manna — bread from heaven.
41He split open a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry wasteland.
42For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.
43So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing.
44He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.

Chapter 101
1I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music. 2I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; 3I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. 4 A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil. 5Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure. 6I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me. 7No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes. 8 Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.Chapter 102
1 Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you! 2 Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call! 3For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. 4My heart is struck down like grass and has withered; I forget to eat my bread. 5Because of my loud groaning my bones cling to my flesh. 6I am like a desert owl of the wilderness, like an owl of the waste places; 7I lie awake; I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop. 8All the day my enemies taunt me; those who deride me use my name for a curse. 9For I eat ashes like bread and mingle tears with my drink, 10because of your indignation and anger; for you have taken me up and thrown me down. 11My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass. 12But you, O Lord, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations. 13You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come. 14For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust. 15Nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory. 16For the Lord builds up Zion; he appears in his glory; 17he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer. 18Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord: 19that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, 20to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die, 21that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord, and in Jerusalem his praise, 22when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the Lord. 23He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days. 24"O my God," I say, "take me not away in the midst of my days — you whose years endure throughout all generations!" 25 Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, 27but you are the same, and your years have no end. 28 The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you.Chapter 103
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle 's. 6The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. 7He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. 8The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 9 He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. 10He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. 13As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 14For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. 15As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; 16for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. 17But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children 's children, 18to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments. 19The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. 20Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! 21Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will! 22 Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!Chapter 104
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. 3He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; 4he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. 5He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. 6You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 7At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. 8The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. 9You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. 10You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; 11they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. 13 From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work. 14You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth 15and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man 's heart. 16The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. 17In them the birds build their nests; the stork has her home in the fir trees. 18The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers. 19He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. 20 You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about. 21 The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. 22When the sun rises, they steal away and lie down in their dens. 23 Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening. 24O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. 25Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. 26There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it. 27These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. 28When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. 29When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. 30When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. 31May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works, 32who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! 33I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. 34May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. 35Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!Chapter 105
1 Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 2Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! 3Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! 4Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! 5Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, 6O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones! 7He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 8He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, 9 the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, 10which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, 11saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion for an inheritance." 12When they were few in number, of little account, and sojourners in it, 13wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, 14he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, 15saying, "Touch not my anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!" 16When he summoned a famine on the land and broke all supply of bread, 17he had sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. 18His feet were hurt with fetters; his neck was put in a collar of iron; 19until what he had said came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him. 20 The king sent and released him; the ruler of the peoples set him free; 21he made him lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions, 22to bind his princes at his pleasure and to teach his elders wisdom. 23Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24And the Lord made his people very fruitful and made them stronger than their foes. 25He turned their hearts to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants. 26He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. 27 They performed his signs among them and miracles in the land of Ham. 28He sent darkness, and made the land dark; they did not rebel against his words. 29He turned their waters into blood and caused their fish to die. 30Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the chambers of their kings. 31He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country. 32He gave them hail for rain, and fiery lightning bolts through their land. 33He struck down their vines and fig trees, and shattered the trees of their country. 34He spoke, and the locusts came, young locusts without number, 35which devoured all the vegetation in their land and ate up the fruit of their ground. 36He struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their strength. 37Then he brought out Israel with silver and gold, and there was none among his tribes who stumbled. 38 Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it. 39He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night. 40 They asked, and he brought quail, and gave them bread from heaven in abundance. 41He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river. 42For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant. 43So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing. 44And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples ' toil, 45that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise the Lord!New International Version
Chapter 101
1Of David. A psalm. I will sing of your love and justice; to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
7No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.
8Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord.
2Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
3For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.
4My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.
5In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones.
6I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins.
7I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof.
8All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse.
9For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears
10because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
12But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.
13You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.
14For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity.
15The nations will fear the name of the Lord, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.
16For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.
17He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.
18Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:
19"The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth,
20to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death."
21So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem
22when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.
23In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days.
24So I said: "Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations.
25In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
27But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
28The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."
Chapter 103
1Of David. Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
6The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
8The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
9He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
15The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field;
16the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
17But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—
19The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
20Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
21Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
Chapter 104
1Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. 2The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent 3and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.
4He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.
5He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
6You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
7But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;
8they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.
9You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
10He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
11They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.
13He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
14He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:
15wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
16The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.
18The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.
19He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.
20You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.
21The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.
22The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.
23Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.
24How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.
26There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
27All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
28When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
31May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—
32he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.

18They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons,

20The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free.
21He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed,

23Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
24The Lord made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes,

35they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil.
36Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood.
37He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them.
39He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night.
40They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven.
41He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert.
42For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham.
43He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for—
