Chapter 18

31So Pilate said to them, 'Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.' The Jews said to him, 'We are not permitted to put anyone to death.' 32This happened so that the word of Jesus which He said, indicating what kind of death He was going to die, would be fulfilled.
33Therefore Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, 'You are the King of the Jews?'

31Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. 33Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

31Pilate told them, "You take him and judge him according to your law." "It’s not legal for us to put anyone to death," the Jews declared. 32They said this so that Jesus’s words might be fulfilled indicating what kind of death he was going to die.
33Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"

31Then take him away and judge him by your own law,' Pilate told them. 'Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,' the Jewish leaders replied. 32(This fulfilled Jesus’ prediction about the way he would die. )
33Then Pilate went back into his headquarters and called for Jesus to be brought to him. 'Are you the king of the Jews?' he asked him.
