What does Isaiah 11:11 mean?

This future kingdom about which Isaiah has written will be ruled by the descendant of King David and his father, Jesse (Isaiah 11:1). The previous verse revealed that the Messiah will be the signal that will draw all the non-Jewish peoples and nations to willingly gather under His reign (Isaiah 11:10).

Now Isaiah describes how the Messiah will once more gather all the Jewish people of the world to Himself. God will extend His hand to bring His people home to the nation of Israel, just as he had done when He freed them from Egypt. He will recover the remnant of the Israelites from the corners of the earth. This will include Assyria, Elam, and Shinar or Babylonia in the east; Hamath in the north; Lower Egypt, Pathros or Upper Egypt, and Cush in the south; and the islands or coastlands of the sea in the west.

The inclusion of these specific directions does not mean these are the only places from which God will call His people home. They were likely included to indicate that He would draw His people to Himself from all over the world.
