John 8:50-57
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
50
But I am not seeking My glory; there is One who seeks
it,
and judges.
51
Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone follows My word, he will never see death.'
52
The Jews said to Him, 'Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets
as well;
and
yet
You say, ‘If anyone follows My word, he will never taste of death.’
53
You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died, are You? The prophets died too. Whom do You make Yourself
out to be?
'
54
Jesus answered, 'If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’;
55
and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you; but I do know Him, and I follow His word.
56
Your father Abraham was overjoyed that he would see My day, and he saw
it
and rejoiced.'
57
So the Jews said to Him, 'You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?'
King James Version
Chapter 8
50
And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54
Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55
Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57
Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
50
I do not seek my own glory; there is one who seeks it and judges.
51
Truly I tell you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."
52
Then the Jews said, "Now we know you have a demon. Abraham died and so did the prophets. You say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’
53
Are you greater than our father Abraham who died? And the prophets died. Who do you claim to be?"
54
"If I glorify myself," Jesus answered, "my glory is nothing. My Father—about whom you say, ‘He is our God’—he is the one who glorifies me.
55
You do not know him, but I know him. If I were to say I don’t know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I keep his word.
56
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad."
57
The Jews replied, "You aren’t fifty years old yet, and you’ve seen Abraham?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
50
And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God is going to glorify me. He is the true judge.
51
I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!'
52
The people said, 'Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, ‘Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!’
53
Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?'
54
Jesus answered, 'If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, ‘He is our God,’
55
but you don’t even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But I do know him and obey him.
56
Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad.'
57
The people said, 'You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham? '

Chapter 8
50
Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge.
51
Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’

Chapter 8
50
I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.
51
Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death."
52
At this they exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.
53
Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"
54
Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.
55
Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.
56
Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."
57
"You are not yet fifty years old," they said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"

50
And I do not seek My

Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”
