John 3:2-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
2
this man came to Jesus at night and said to Him, 'Rabbi, we know that You have come from God
as
a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.'
3
Jesus responded and said to him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.'
4
Nicodemus *said to Him, 'How can a person be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?'
5
Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and
the
Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6
That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit.
7
Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
8
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it is coming from and where it is going; so is everyone who has been born of the Spirit.'
9
Nicodemus responded and said to Him, 'How can these things be?'
King James Version
Chapter 3
2
The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 3
2
This man came to him at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform these signs you do unless God were with him."
3
Jesus replied, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4
"How can anyone be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked him. "Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?"
5
Jesus answered, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6
Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7
Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again.
8
The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
9
"How can these things be?" asked Nicodemus.
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
2
After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. 'Rabbi,' he said, 'we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.'
3
Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.'
4
What do you mean?' exclaimed Nicodemus. 'How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?'
5
Jesus replied, 'I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.
6
Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
7
So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’
8
The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.'
9
How are these things possible?' Nicodemus asked.

Chapter 3
2
He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. "
4
"How can someone be born when they are old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!"
5
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
6
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
7
You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’
8
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
9
"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
