2 Samuel 23:6-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 23
6
But the worthless, every one of them, are like scattered thorns,
Because they cannot be taken in hand;
7
Instead, the man
who
touches them
Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear,
And they will be completely burned with fire in
their
place.'
8
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth, a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; he was
called
Adino the Eznite because of eight hundred who were killed
by him
at one time.
King James Version
Chapter 23
6
But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:
7
But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.
8
These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 23

But all the wicked are like thorns raked aside;
they can never be picked up by hand.

The man who touches them
must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear.
They will be completely burned up on the spot.
8
These are the names of David’s warriors: Josheb-basshebeth the Tahchemonite was chief of the officers. He wielded his spear against eight hundred men that he killed at one time.
New Living Translation
Chapter 23

But the godless are like thorns to be thrown away,
for they tear the hand that touches them.
7
One must use iron tools to chop them down;
they will be totally consumed by fire.'
8
These are the names of David’s mightiest warriors. The first was Jashobeam the Hacmonite, who was leader of the Three — the three mightiest warriors among David’s men. He once used his spear to kill 800 enemy warriors in a single battle.
English Standard Version
