2 Samuel 1:12-16

New American Standard Bible

Chapter 1

12 And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword. 13 Then David said to the young man who informed him, 'Where are you from?' And he answered, 'I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.' 14 And David said to him, 'How is it you were not afraid to reach out with your hand to destroy the LORD’S anointed?' 15 Then David called one of the young men and said, 'Come forward, put him to death.' So he struck him and he died. 16 And David said to him, 'Your blood is on your head, because your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have finished off the LORD’S anointed.’?'
King James Version

Chapter 1

12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. 13 And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. 14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed? 15 And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. 16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S anointed.

Chapter 1

12 They mourned, wept, and fasted until the evening for those who died by the sword--for Saul, his son Jonathan, the Lord's people, and the house of Israel.
13 David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, "Where are you from? ""I'm the son of a resident alien," he said. "I'm an Amalekite."
14 David questioned him, "How is it that you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord's anointed? " 15 Then David summoned one of his servants and said, "Come here and kill him! " The servant struck him, and he died. 16 For David had said to the Amalekite, "Your blood is on your own head because your own mouth testified against you by saying, 'I killed the Lord's anointed.' "
New Living Translation

Chapter 1

12 They mourned and wept and fasted all day for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the LORD's army and the nation of Israel, because they had died by the sword that day.
13 Then David said to the young man who had brought the news, 'Where are you from?' And he replied, 'I am a foreigner, an Amalekite, who lives in your land.'
14 'Why were you not afraid to kill the LORD's anointed one?' David asked.
15 Then David said to one of his men, 'Kill him!' So the man thrust his sword into the Amalekite and killed him. 16 'You have condemned yourself,' David said, 'for you yourself confessed that you killed the LORD's anointed one.'

Chapter 1
