2 Samuel 19:13-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
13
And say to Amasa, ‘Are you not my bone and my flesh? May God do so to me, and more so, if you will not be commander of the army for me continually, in place of Joab.’?'
14
So he turned the hearts of all the men of Judah as one man, so that they sent
word
to the king,
saying,
'Return, you and all your servants.'
15
The king then returned and came as far as the Jordan. And
the men of
Judah came to Gilgal in order to go to meet the king, to escort the king across the Jordan.
King James Version
Chapter 19
13
And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.
14
And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
15
So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 19
13
And tell Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God punish me and do so severely if you don’t become commander of my army from now on instead of Joab!’"
14
So he won over all the men of Judah, and they unanimously sent word to the king: "Come back, you and all your servants."
15
Then the king returned. When he arrived at the Jordan, Judah came to Gilgal to meet the king and escort him across the Jordan.
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
13
And David told them to tell Amasa, 'Since you are my own flesh and blood, like Joab, may God strike me and even kill me if I do not appoint you as commander of my army in his place.'
14
Then Amasa convinced all the men of Judah, and they responded unanimously. They sent word to the king, 'Return to us, and bring back all who are with you.'
15
So the king started back to Jerusalem. And when he arrived at the Jordan River, the people of Judah came to Gilgal to meet him and escort him across the river.
English Standard Version
Chapter 19
13
And say to Amasa, ‘Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if you are not commander of my army from now on in place of Joab.’"
14
And he swayed the heart of all the men of Judah as one man, so that they sent word to the king, "Return, both you and all your servants."
15
So the king came back to the Jordan, and Judah came to Gilgal to meet the king and to bring the king over the Jordan.
New International Version
Chapter 19
13
And say to Amasa, ‘Are you not my own flesh and blood? May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you are not the commander of my army for life in place of Joab.’ "
14
He won over the hearts of the men of Judah so that they were all of one mind. They sent word to the king, "Return, you and all your men."
15
Then the king returned and went as far as the Jordan. Now the men of Judah had come to Gilgal to go out and meet the king and bring him across the Jordan.
New King James Version
Chapter 19
13
And say to Amasa, ‘
Are
you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you are not commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab.’ ”
14
So he swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah, just as
the heart of
one man, so that they sent
this word
to the king: “Return, you and all your servants!”
15
Then the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to escort the king across the Jordan.
