2 Samuel 17:6-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
6
When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said to him, 'Ahithophel has proposed this plan. Should we carry out his plan? If not, say
so
yourself.'
7
So Hushai said to Absalom, 'This time the advice that Ahithophel has given is not good.'
8
Then Hushai said, 'You yourself know your father and his men, that they are warriors and they are fierce, like a bear deprived of her cubs in the field. And your father is an expert in warfare, and he will not spend the night with the people.
King James Version
Chapter 17
6
And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.
7
And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.
8
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
6
So Hushai came to Absalom, and Absalom told him: "Ahithophel offered this proposal. Should we carry out his proposal? If not, what do you say?"
7
Hushai replied to Absalom, "The advice Ahithophel has given this time is not good."
8
Hushai continued, "You know your father and his men. They are warriors and are desperate like a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Your father is an experienced soldier who won’t spend the night with the people.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
6
When Hushai arrived, Absalom told him what Ahithophel had said. Then he asked, 'What is your opinion? Should we follow Ahithophel’s advice? If not, what do you suggest?'
7
Well,' Hushai replied to Absalom, 'this time Ahithophel has made a mistake.
8
You know your father and his men; they are mighty warriors. Right now they are as enraged as a mother bear who has been robbed of her cubs. And remember that your father is an experienced man of war. He won’t be spending the night among the troops.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
6
And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom said to him, "Thus has Ahithophel spoken; shall we do as he says? If not, you speak."
7
Then Hushai said to Absalom, "This time the counsel that Ahithophel has given is not good."
8
Hushai said, "You know that your father and his men are mighty men, and that they are enraged, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. Besides, your father is expert in war; he will not spend the night with the people.
New International Version
Chapter 17
6
When Hushai came to him, Absalom said, "Ahithophel has given this advice. Should we do what he says? If not, give us your opinion."
7
Hushai replied to Absalom, "The advice Ahithophel has given is not good this time.
8
You know your father and his men; they are fighters, and as fierce as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Besides, your father is an experienced fighter; he will not spend the night with the troops.
New King James Version
Chapter 17
6
And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, “Ahithophel has spoken in this manner. Shall we do as he says? If not, speak up.”
7
So Hushai said to Absalom: “The advice that Ahithophel has given
is
not good at this time.
8
For,” said Hushai, “you know your father and his men, that they
are
mighty men, and they
are
enraged in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field; and your father
is
a man of war, and will not camp with the people.
