2 Samuel 15:3-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
3
Then Absalom would say to him, 'See, your claims are good and right, but you have no one to listen to you on the part of the king.'
4
Moreover, Absalom would say, 'Oh that someone would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has a lawsuit or claim could come to me, and I would give him justice!'
5
And whenever a man approached to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
6
Absalom dealt this way with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel.
7
Now it came about at the end of four years that Absalom said to the king, 'Please let me go and pay my vow which I have made to the
Lord
, in Hebron.
King James Version
Chapter 15
3
And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.
4
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
5
And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
6
And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
7
And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the
Lord
, in Hebron.
Christian Standard Bible

He added, "If only someone would appoint me judge in the land. Then anyone who had a grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would make sure he received justice."
5
When a person approached to pay homage to him, Absalom reached out his hand, took hold of him, and kissed him.
6
Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for a settlement. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
7
When four years had passed, Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go to Hebron to fulfill a vow I made to the
Lord
.

I wish I were the judge. Then everyone could bring their cases to me for judgment, and I would give them justice!'
5
When people tried to bow before him, Absalom wouldn’t let them. Instead, he took them by the hand and kissed them.
6
Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.
