2 Samuel 14:8-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
8
Then the king said to the woman, 'Go to your home, and I will issue orders concerning you.'
9
The woman of Tekoa said to the king, 'My lord, the king, the guilt is on me and my father’s house, but the king and his throne are guiltless.'
10
So the king said, 'Whoever speaks to you, bring him to me, and he will not touch you anymore.'
11
Then she said, 'May the king please remember the
Lord
your God,
so that
the avenger of blood will not continue to destroy, otherwise they will destroy my son.' And he said, 'As the
Lord
lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.'
12
Then the woman said, 'Please let your servant speak a word to my lord the king.' And he said, 'Speak.'
King James Version
Chapter 14
8
And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee.
9
And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.
10
And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.
11
Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the
Lord
thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the
Lord
liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.
12
Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 14
8
The king told the woman, "Go home. I will issue a command on your behalf."
9
Then the woman of Tekoa said to the king, "My lord the king, may any blame be on me and my father’s family, and may the king and his throne be innocent."
10
"Whoever speaks to you," the king said, "bring him to me. He will not trouble you again!"
11
She replied, "Please, may the king invoke the
Lord
your God, so that the avenger of blood will not increase the loss, and they will not eliminate my son!" "As the
Lord
lives," he vowed, "not a hair of your son will fall to the ground."
12
Then the woman said, "Please, may your servant speak a word to my lord the king?" "Speak," he replied.
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
8
Leave it to me,' the king told her. 'Go home, and I’ll see to it that no one touches him.'
9
Oh, thank you, my lord the king,' the woman from Tekoa replied. 'If you are criticized for helping me, let the blame fall on me and on my father’s house, and let the king and his throne be innocent.'
10
If anyone objects,' the king said, 'bring him to me. I can assure you he will never harm you again!'
11
Then she said, 'Please swear to me by the
Lord
your God that you won’t let anyone take vengeance against my son. I want no more bloodshed.' 'As surely as the
Lord
lives,' he replied, 'not a hair on your son’s head will be disturbed!'
12
Please allow me to ask one more thing of my lord the king,' she said. 'Go ahead and speak,' he responded.
