2 Samuel 1:7-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
7
When he looked behind himself, he saw me, and called to me. And I said, ‘Here I am.’
8
Then he said to me, ‘Who are you?’ And I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
9
And he said to me, ‘Please stand next to me and finish me off, for agony has seized me because my life still lingers in me.’
10
So I stood next to him and finished him off, because I knew that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown which
was
on his head and the band which
was
on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.'
11
Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and
so
also
did
all the men who
were
with him.
12
And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the people of the
Lord
and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
King James Version
Chapter 1
7
And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.
8
And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.
9
He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
10
So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.
11
Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:
12
And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the
Lord
, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
7
When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, so I answered: I’m at your service.
8
He asked me, ‘Who are you?’ I told him: I’m an Amalekite.
9
Then he begged me, ‘Stand over me and kill me, for I’m mortally wounded, but my life still lingers.’
10
So I stood over him and killed him because I knew that after he had fallen he couldn’t survive. I took the crown that was on his head and the armband that was on his arm, and I’ve brought them here to my lord."
11
Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and all the men with him did the same.
12
They mourned, wept, and fasted until the evening for those who died by the sword—for Saul, his son Jonathan, the
Lord
’s people, and the house of Israel.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
7
When he turned and saw me, he cried out for me to come to him. ‘How can I help?’ I asked him.
8
He responded, ‘Who are you?’ '‘I am an Amalekite,’ I told him.
9
Then he begged me, ‘Come over here and put me out of my misery, for I am in terrible pain and want to die.’
10
So I killed him,' the Amalekite told David, 'for I knew he couldn’t live. Then I took his crown and his armband, and I have brought them here to you, my lord.'
11
David and his men tore their clothes in sorrow when they heard the news.
12
They mourned and wept and fasted all day for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the
Lord
’s army and the nation of Israel, because they had died by the sword that day.

Chapter 1
7
And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called to me. And I answered, ‘Here I am.’
8
And he said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
9
And he said to me, ‘Stand beside me and kill me, for anguish has seized me, and yet my life still lingers.’
10
So I stood beside him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the armlet that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord."
11
Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him.
12
And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son and for the people of the
Lord
and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

"Then he said to me, ‘Stand here by me and kill me! I’m in the throes of death, but I’m still alive.’
10
"So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord."
11
Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them.

7
Now when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, ‘Here I am.’

And he said to me, ‘Who
