Romans 9:3-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that I myself were accursed,
separated
from Christ for the sake of my countrymen, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
4
who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons
and daughters,
the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law, the
temple
service, and the promises;
5
whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.
6
But
it is
not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are
descended
from Israel;
7
nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: 'THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS SHALL BE NAMED.'
King James Version
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4
Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5
Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
6
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
7
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the benefit of my brothers and sisters, my own flesh and blood.
4
They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple service, and the promises.
5
The ancestors are theirs, and from them, by physical descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, praised forever. Amen.
6
Now it is not as though the word of God has failed, because not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
7
Neither are all of Abraham’s children his descendants. On the contrary,
your offspring will be traced
through Isaac.
New Living Translation
Chapter 9
3
for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed — cut off from Christ! — if that would save them.
4
They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God’s adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises.
5
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.
6
Well then, has God failed to fulfill his promise to Israel? No, for not all who are born into the nation of Israel are truly members of God’s people!
7
Being descendants of Abraham doesn’t make them truly Abraham’s children. For the Scriptures say, 'Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted,' though Abraham had other children, too.
English Standard Version
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.
4
They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises.
5
To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.
6
But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,
7
and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but "Through Isaac shall your offspring be named."
New International Version
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race,
4
the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.
5
Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.
6
It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
7
Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."
New King James Version
Chapter 9
3
For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,
4
who are Israelites, to whom
pertain
the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service
of God,
and the promises;
5
of whom
are
the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ
came,
who is over all,
the
eternally blessed God. Amen.
6
But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they
are
not all Israel who
are
of Israel,
7
nor
are they
all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.”
