Chapter 9

14What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? Far from it! 15For He says to Moses, 'I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOMEVER I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL SHOW COMPASSION TO WHOMEVER I SHOW COMPASSION.' 16So then, it does not depend on the person who wants it nor the one who runs, but on God who has mercy.

14What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. 15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

Chapter 9

14What should we say then? Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not! 15For he tells Moses, I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16So then, it does not depend on human will or effort but on God who shows mercy.

14Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not!
15For God said to Moses, 'I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.'
16So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.
