Luke 6:1-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 6
1
Now it happened that Jesus was passing through
some
grainfields on a Sabbath, and His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating
them.
2
But some of the Pharisees said, 'Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?'
3
And Jesus, answering them, said, 'Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him,
4
how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful
for anyone
to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?'
5
And He was saying to them, 'The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.'
6
On another Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught; and a man was there whose right hand was withered.
King James Version
Chapter 6
1
And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
2
And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
3
And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;
4
How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
5
And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
6
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 6
1
On a Sabbath, he passed through the grainfields. His disciples were picking heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.
2
But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"
3
Jesus answered them, "Haven’t you read what David and those who were with him did when he was hungry—
4
how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat? He even gave some to those who were with him."
5
Then he told them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
6
On another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
New Living Translation
Chapter 6
1
One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples broke off heads of grain, rubbed off the husks in their hands, and ate the grain.
2
But some Pharisees said, 'Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?'
3
Jesus replied, 'Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
4
He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests can eat. He also gave some to his companions.'
5
And Jesus added, 'The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.'
6
On another Sabbath day, a man with a deformed right hand was in the synagogue while Jesus was teaching.
English Standard Version

He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions."
5
Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
6
On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled.

And some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”

5
And He said to them, “The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”
