Chapter 6
9There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?' 10Jesus said, 'Have the people recline to eat.' Now there was plenty of grass in the place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. 11Jesus then took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12And when they had eaten their fill, He *said to His disciples, 'Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.' 13So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, 'This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.'
16Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
17and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
18In addition, the sea began getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing.
19Then, when they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat; and they were frightened.

9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 10And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. 14Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. 15When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
17And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place; so they sat down. The men numbered about five thousand.
11Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks he distributed them to those who were seated—so also with the fish, as much as they wanted.
12When they were full, he told his disciples, "Collect the leftovers so that nothing is wasted."
13So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces from the five barley loaves that were left over by those who had eaten.
16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
17got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. Darkness had already set in, but Jesus had not yet come to them.
18A high wind arose, and the sea began to churn.
19After they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea. He was coming near the boat, and they were afraid.

10Tell everyone to sit down,' Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.)
11Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.
12After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, 'Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.'
13So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.
14When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, 'Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!'
15When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.
16That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for him.
17But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum.
18Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough.
19They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified,
