John 21:20-25
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 21
20Peter turned around and *saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them—the one who also had leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, 'Lord, who is the one who is betraying You?' 21So Peter, upon seeing him, *said to Jesus, 'Lord, and what about this man?' 22Jesus *said to him, 'If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!' 23Therefore this account went out among the brothers, that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, 'If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?'King James Version
Chapter 21
20Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. 23Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? 24This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. 25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.Christian Standard Bible
New Living Translation
Chapter 21
20Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved — the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, 'Lord, who will betray you?' 21Peter asked Jesus, 'What about him, Lord?'
22Jesus replied, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.'
23So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?'

Chapter 21
20Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, 'Lord, who is going to betray you?') 21When Peter saw him, he asked, 'Lord, what about him?'
22Jesus answered, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.'
23Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?'
