John 10:34-40
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 10
34
Jesus answered them, 'Has it not been written in your Law: ‘I SAID, YOU ARE
God
S’?
35
If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be nullified),
36
are you saying of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37
If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
38
but if I do
them,
even though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.'
39
Therefore they were seeking again to arrest Him, and He eluded their grasp.
40
And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He stayed there.
King James Version
Chapter 10
34
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods
35
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36
Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
37
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
39
Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
40
And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 10
34
Jesus answered them, "Isn’t it written in your law,
I said, you are gods
?
35
If he called those whom the word of God came to ‘gods’—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
36
do you say, ‘You are blaspheming’ to the one the Father set apart and sent into the world, because I said: I am the Son of God?
37
If I am not doing my Father’s works, don’t believe me.
38
But if I am doing them and you don’t believe me, believe the works. This way you will know and understand that the Father is in me and I in the Father."
39
Then they were trying again to seize him, but he eluded their grasp.
40
So he departed again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing earlier, and he remained there.
New Living Translation
Chapter 10
34
Jesus replied, 'It is written in your own Scriptures that God said to certain leaders of the people, ‘I say, you are gods!’
35
And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered. So if those people who received God’s message were called ‘gods,’
36
why do you call it blasphemy when I say, ‘I am the Son of God’? After all, the Father set me apart and sent me into the world.
37
Don’t believe me unless I carry out my Father’s work.
38
But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.'
39
Once again they tried to arrest him, but he got away and left them.
40
He went beyond the Jordan River near the place where John was first baptizing and stayed there awhile.
English Standard Version
Chapter 10
34
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
35
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came — and Scripture cannot be broken —
36
do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37
If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;
38
but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."
39
Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.
40
He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained.
New International Version
Chapter 10
34
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are "gods" ’ ?
35
If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside—
36
what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?
37
Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.
38
But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."
39
Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
40
Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,
