John 1:20-22
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
20
And he confessed and did not deny; and
this is what
he confessed: 'I am not the Christ.'
21
And
so
they asked him, 'What then? Are you Elijah?' And he *said, 'I am not.' 'Are you the Prophet?' And he answered, 'No.'
22
Then they said to him, 'Who are you?
Tell us,
so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?'
King James Version
Chapter 1
20
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22
Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
20
He didn’t deny it but confessed: "I am not the Messiah."
21
"What then?" they asked him. "Are you Elijah?" "I am not," he said. "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered.
22
"Who are you, then?" they asked. "We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
20
He came right out and said, 'I am not the Messiah.'
21
Well then, who are you?' they asked. 'Are you Elijah?' 'No,' he replied. 'Are you the Prophet we are expecting?' 'No.'
22
Then who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?'
English Standard Version
