What does Isaiah 44:24 mean?

Isaiah has called for all of creation to join a celebration. The occasion is the Lord's redemption of Israel from both her sins (Isaiah 44:22) and her captive exile in Babylon (2 Chronicles 36:17–21). The prophet is writing about something the Lord will do for a generation of Israelite's in Isaiah's own future.

God begins to describe how He can do such a thing. He can bring His powerless people out of their powerless position as slaves in Babylon. He can return them to their place as an independent and fully functioning nation in the land that He has given to them (Jeremiah 29:10–12). The chapter will end with a shockingly specific prediction about how the Lord will accomplish this, but first Isaiah focuses on the fact that God can do anything He wants at any time (Job 42:2)

The Lord God is Israel's Redeemer. This is one of God's names because it describes what the Lord does. He rescues Israel. He restores His people from both physical and spiritual captivity. He pays the price to make His people free.

Next, the Lord is responsible for the very creation of the nation of Israel (Genesis 28:12–13; 32:28). Poetically, God formed Israel from the womb—from their very first instant of existence. David describes how the Lord formed him in the womb in Psalm 139:13–14. The Lord did the same with Israel as a nation, building them from the offspring of Abraham as His own special people. They exist because He caused them to exist.

As if that were not enough, the Lord can bring this once-great nation (1 Kings 10:23–25) back from the brink of extinction. He made the entire earth (Genesis 1:1). What can the Creator of all things not do? He did it without help, stretching out the heavens and spreading out the earth by Himself. He can fully rescue His people and restore them to greatness.
