What does Isaiah 42:8 mean?
God seals His astounding promise to send a Servant (Isaiah 42:1) to fulfill His covenant promises to humanity (Isaiah 42:6). He does so simply by identifying Himself as Yahweh, or "The Lord," using the name He gave to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:15). The implication is that the Creator God has spoken (Isaiah 42:5), and His words cannot be contradicted.The Lord continues by emphasizing that He alone is God. Contrary to the idol-worshipping religious beliefs of all the nations around Israel, God alone is real. He is not merely one of many man-made gods. He is not the chief of a list of deities. He is not just the God of Israel. He is the one and only God, and He does not share glory with lesser gods or anyone else. He does not exist in or give any recognition to idols meant to represent Him or any other god.
He alone is God, and He alone will send His Servant to finally and fully satisfy His covenant and bring order, righteousness, and justice to the earth.
