Matthew 16:22-25
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 16
22
And
yet
Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, 'God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You!'
23
But He turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s purposes, but men’s.'
24
Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.
25
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
King James Version
Chapter 16
22
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any
man
will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 16
22
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, "Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to you! "
23
Jesus turned and told Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me because you're not thinking about God's concerns but human concerns."
24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
25
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will find it.
New Living Translation
Chapter 16
22
But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. 'Heaven forbid, Lord,' he said. 'This will never happen to you!'
23
Jesus turned to Peter and said, 'Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.'
24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.
25
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
English Standard Version
