New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
53They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together. 54And Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire. 55Now the chief priests and the entire Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent. 57And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying, 58We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’?' 59And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent. 60And then the high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, 'Do You not offer any answer for what these men are testifying against You?' 61But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and *said to Him, 'Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?' 62And Jesus said, 'I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.' 63Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, 'What further need do we have of witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you?' And they all condemned Him as deserving of death. 65And some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him, 'Prophesy!' Then the officers took custody of Him and slapped Him in the face.King James Version

53And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. 54And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. 55And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. 56For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. 57And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, 58We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. 59But neither so did their witness agree together. 60And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 61But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.
56For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.
57Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating,
58"We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’"
59Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.
60Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, "Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?"
61But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?"

53They took Jesus to the high priest’s home where the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law had gathered. 54Meanwhile, Peter followed him at a distance and went right into the high priest’s courtyard. There he sat with the guards, warming himself by the fire.
55Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find evidence against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But they couldn’t find any.
56Many false witnesses spoke against him, but they contradicted each other.
57Finally, some men stood up and gave this false testimony:
58We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this Temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another, made without human hands.’'
59But even then they didn’t get their stories straight!
