Mark 14:53-63
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
53
They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together.
54
And Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
55
Now the chief priests and the entire Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
56
For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and
so
their testimonies were not consistent.
57
And
then
some stood up and
began
giving false testimony against Him, saying,
58
We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’?'
59
And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.
60
And
then
the high priest stood up
and came
forward and questioned Jesus, saying, 'Do You not offer any answer for what these men are testifying against You?'
61
But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and *said to Him, 'Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed
One?
'
62
And Jesus said, 'I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.'
63
Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, 'What further need do we have of witnesses?
King James Version
Chapter 14
53
And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54
And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55
And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56
For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57
And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59
But neither so did their witness agree together.
60
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62
And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63
Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

Peter followed him at a distance, right into the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the servants, warming himself by the fire.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.
56
For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.
57
Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating,
58
"We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’"
59
Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.
60
Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, "Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?"
61
But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62
"I am," said Jesus, "and you will see

Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "Why do we still need witnesses?
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
53
They took Jesus to the high priest’s home where the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law had gathered.
54
Meanwhile, Peter followed him at a distance and went right into the high priest’s courtyard. There he sat with the guards, warming himself by the fire.
55
Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find evidence against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But they couldn’t find any.
56
Many false witnesses spoke against him, but they contradicted each other.
57
Finally, some men stood up and gave this false testimony:
58
We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this Temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another, made without human hands.’'
59
But even then they didn’t get their stories straight!
60
Then the high priest stood up before the others and asked Jesus, 'Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?'
61
But Jesus was silent and made no reply. Then the high priest asked him, 'Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?'
62
Jesus said, 'I AM. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven. '
63
Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, 'Why do we need other witnesses?
