Mark 14:44-52
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
44
Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, 'Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away under guard.'
45
And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and *said, 'Rabbi!' and kissed Him.
46
And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him.
47
But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48
And Jesus said to them, 'Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as
you would
against a man inciting a revolt?
49
Every day I was with you within the temple
grounds
teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but
this has taken place
so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.'
50
And His disciples all left Him and fled.
51
A young man was following Him, wearing
nothing but
a linen sheet over
his
naked
body;
and they *seized him.
52
But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
King James Version
Chapter 14
44
And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45
And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46
And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47
And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me
49
I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50
And they all forsook him, and fled.
51
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52
And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 14
44
His betrayer had given them a signal. "The one I kiss," he said, "he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard."
45
So when he came, immediately he went up to Jesus and said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him.
46
They took hold of him and arrested him.
47
One of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.
48
Jesus said to them, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture me?
49
Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."
50
Then they all deserted him and ran away.
51
Now a certain young man, wearing nothing but a linen cloth, was following him. They caught hold of him,
52
but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked.
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
44
The traitor, Judas, had given them a prearranged signal: 'You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss. Then you can take him away under guard.'
45
As soon as they arrived, Judas walked up to Jesus. 'Rabbi!' he exclaimed, and gave him the kiss.
46
Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.
47
But one of the men with Jesus pulled out his sword and struck the high priest’s slave, slashing off his ear.
48
Jesus asked them, 'Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me?
49
Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there among you teaching every day. But these things are happening to fulfill what the Scriptures say about me.'
50
Then all his disciples deserted him and ran away.
51
One young man following behind was clothed only in a long linen shirt. When the mob tried to grab him,
52
he slipped out of his shirt and ran away naked.
English Standard Version

46
And they laid hands on him and seized him.
