Mark 14:37-57
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
37And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38Keep watching and praying, so that you will not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.' 39And again He went away and prayed, saying the same words. 40And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say in reply to Him. 41And He *came the third time, and *said to them, 'Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough. The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!'
43And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who were from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
44Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, 'Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away under guard.'
45And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and *said, 'Rabbi!' and kissed Him.
46And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him.
47But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48And Jesus said to them, 'Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a man inciting a revolt?
49Every day I was with you within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but this has taken place so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.'
50And His disciples all left Him and fled.
51A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him.
52But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
53They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together.
54And Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
55Now the chief priests and the entire Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
56For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent.
57And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying,

Chapter 14
37And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou couldest not thou watch one hour 38Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. 41And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
43And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me
49I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
51And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

Chapter 14
37Then he came and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake one hour? 38Stay awake and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." 39Once again he went away and prayed, saying the same thing. 40And again he came and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him. 41Then he came a third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. See, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near."
43While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
44His betrayer had given them a signal. "The one I kiss," he said, "he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard."
45So when he came, immediately he went up to Jesus and said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him.
46They took hold of him and arrested him.
47One of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.
48Jesus said to them, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture me?
49Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."
50Then they all deserted him and ran away.
51Now a certain young man, wearing nothing but a linen cloth, was following him. They caught hold of him,
52but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked.

Chapter 14
37Then he returned and found the disciples asleep. He said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? 38Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.'
39Then Jesus left them again and prayed the same prayer as before.
40When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open. And they didn’t know what to say.
41When he returned to them the third time, he said, 'Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But no — the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42Up, let’s be going. Look, my betrayer is here!'
43And immediately, even as Jesus said this, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a crowd of men armed with swords and clubs. They had been sent by the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders.
44The traitor, Judas, had given them a prearranged signal: 'You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss. Then you can take him away under guard.'
45As soon as they arrived, Judas walked up to Jesus. 'Rabbi!' he exclaimed, and gave him the kiss.
46Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.
47But one of the men with Jesus pulled out his sword and struck the high priest’s slave, slashing off his ear.
48Jesus asked them, 'Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me?
49Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there among you teaching every day. But these things are happening to fulfill what the Scriptures say about me.'
50Then all his disciples deserted him and ran away.
51One young man following behind was clothed only in a long linen shirt. When the mob tried to grab him,
52he slipped out of his shirt and ran away naked.
