Luke 22:57-62
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 22
57
But he denied
it,
saying, 'I do not know Him, woman!'
58
And a little later, another person saw him and said, 'You are
one
of them too!' But Peter said, 'Man, I am not!'
59
And after about an hour had passed, some other man
began
to insist, saying, 'Certainly this man also was with Him, for he, too, is a Galilean.'
60
But Peter said, 'Man, I do not know what you are talking about!' And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61
And
then
the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, 'Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.'
62
And he went out and wept bitterly.
King James Version
Chapter 22
57
And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58
And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59
And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60
And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62
And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 22
57
But he denied it: "Woman, I don’t know him."
58
After a little while, someone else saw him and said, "You’re one of them too." "Man, I am not!" Peter said.
59
About an hour later, another kept insisting, "This man was certainly with him, since he’s also a Galilean."
60
But Peter said, "Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61
Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."
62
And he went outside and wept bitterly.
New Living Translation
Chapter 22
57
But Peter denied it. 'Woman,' he said, 'I don’t even know him!'
58
After a while someone else looked at him and said, 'You must be one of them!' 'No, man, I’m not!' Peter retorted.
59
About an hour later someone else insisted, 'This must be one of them, because he is a Galilean, too.'
60
But Peter said, 'Man, I don’t know what you are talking about.' And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61
At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord’s words flashed through Peter’s mind: 'Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.'
62
And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.
English Standard Version
Chapter 22
57
But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him."
58
And a little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not."
59
And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, "Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean."
60
But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."
62
And he went out and wept bitterly.
New International Version
Chapter 22
57
But he denied it. "Woman, I don’t know him," he said.
58
A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied.
59
About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean."
60
Peter replied, "Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
61
The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times."
62
And he went outside and wept bitterly.
New King James Version
Chapter 22
57
But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”
58
And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”
59
Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this
fellow
also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”
60
But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
62
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.
