But He began to tell the people this parable: 'A man planted a vineyard and leased it to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time.

the harvest
time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him
his share
of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

And he proceeded to send another slave; but they beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.

And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.

And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

At harvest time he sent a servant to the farmers so that they might give him some fruit from the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

He sent yet another servant, but they beat that one too, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.

Chapter 20

Now Jesus turned to the people again and told them this story: 'A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and moved to another country to live for several years.
10
At the time of the grape harvest, he sent one of his servants to collect his share of the crop. But the farmers attacked the servant, beat him up, and sent him back empty-handed.
11
So the owner sent another servant, but they also insulted him, beat him up, and sent him away empty-handed.
