Chapter 20

37But as for the fact that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed this in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord THE God OF ABRAHAM, THE God OF ISAAC, AND THE God OF JACOB. 38Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to Him.' 39Some of the scribes answered and said, 'Teacher, You have spoken well.' 40For they did not have the courage to question Him any longer about anything.
41But He said to them, 'How is it that they say the Christ is David’s son?
42For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘THE Lord SAID TO MY Lord, 'SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, 43UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET.'?’
44Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and so how is He his son?'

37Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. 39Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said. 40And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? 42And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

39Some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well." 40And they no longer dared to ask him anything.
41Then he said to them, "How can they say that the Christ is the son of David?
42For David himself says in the Book of Psalms: The Lord declared to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand 43 until I make your enemies your footstool.’
44David calls him ‘Lord’ how then can the Christ be his son?"

Chapter 20

37But now, as to whether the dead will be raised — even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush. Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 38So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to him.'
39Well said, Teacher!' remarked some of the teachers of religious law who were standing there. 40And then no one dared to ask him any more questions.
41Then Jesus presented them with a question. 'Why is it,' he asked, 'that the Messiah is said to be the son of David?
42For David himself wrote in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand 43until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.’
44Since David called the Messiah ‘Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?'

41Then Jesus said to them, "Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?
42David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: " ‘The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand 43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." ’
44David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?"
