Luke 19:1-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
Jesus
entered Jericho and was passing through.
2
And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich.
3
Zaccheus
was trying to see who Jesus was, and he was unable due to the crowd, because he was short in stature.
4
So he ran on ahead and climbed up a sycamore tree in order to see Him, because He was about to pass through that
way.
5
And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, 'Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.'
6
And he hurried and came down, and received Him joyfully.
7
When
the people
saw
this,
they all
began
to complain, saying, 'He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner!'
8
But Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, 'Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am giving back four times as much.'
9
And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham.
10
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.'
King James Version
Chapter 19
1
And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2
And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3
And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4
And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6
And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7
And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8
And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9
And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

7
All who saw it began to complain, "He’s gone to stay with a sinful man."
8
But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much."

"Today salvation has come to this house," Jesus told him, "because he too is a son of Abraham.

Chapter 19
1
Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.
2
There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich.
3
He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd.
4
So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.
5
When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. 'Zacchaeus!' he said. 'Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.'
6
Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.
7
But the people were displeased. 'He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,' they grumbled.
8
Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, 'I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!'
9
Jesus responded, 'Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham.
10
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.'
