Luke 12:38-41
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
38
Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds
them
so, blessed are those
slaves.
39
But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
40
You too, be ready; because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not think
He will.
'
41
Peter said, 'Lord, are You telling this parable to us, or to everyone
else
as well?'
King James Version
Chapter 12
38
And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
39
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
40
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
41
Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
38
If he comes in the middle of the night, or even near dawn, and finds them alert, blessed are those servants.
39
But know this: If the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.
40
You also be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
41
"Lord," Peter asked, "are you telling this parable to us or to everyone?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
38
He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.
39
Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into.
40
You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.'
41
Peter asked, 'Lord, is that illustration just for us or for everyone?'
English Standard Version
Chapter 12
38
If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants!
39
But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into.
40
You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
41
Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?"
New International Version
Chapter 12
38
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.
39
But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.
40
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
41
Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?"
New King James Version
Chapter 12
38
And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find
them
so, blessed are those servants.
39
But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
40
Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
41
Then Peter said to Him, “Lord, do You speak this parable
only
to us, or to all
people?
