John 12:4-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
4
But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to betray Him, *said,
5
Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and
the proceeds
given to poor
people?
'
6
Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he kept the money box, he used to steal from what was put into it.
7
Therefore Jesus said, 'Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial.
King James Version
Chapter 12
4
Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
5
Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7
Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
4
Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot (who was about to betray him), said,
5
"Why wasn’t this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"
6
He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
7
Jesus answered, "Leave her alone; she has kept it for the day of my burial.
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
4
But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said,
5
That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.'
6
Not that he cared for the poor — he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself.
7
Jesus replied, 'Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial.

Chapter 12
4
But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected,
5
"Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages. "
6
He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7
"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.
