John 12:36-41

Chapter 12

36While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.' These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and hid Himself from them. 37But though He had performed so many signs in their sight, they still were not believing in Him. 38This happened so that the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke would be fulfilled: 'Lord, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE Lord BEEN REVEALED?' 39For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WILL NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED, AND so I WILL not heal them.' 41These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke about Him.

36While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: 38That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

37Even though he had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him.
38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet, who said: Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39This is why they were unable to believe, because Isaiah also said:
40 He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they would not see with their eyes or understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.
41Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke about him.

Chapter 12

36Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.' After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them.
37But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him.
38This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: 'Lord, who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?'
39But the people couldn’t believe, for as Isaiah also said,
40'The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts — so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.'
41Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory.

36While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.
37Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
39Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,
40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them." 41Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.

40"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them."
