John 11:39-45
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
39
Jesus *said, 'Remove the stone.' Martha, the sister of the deceased, *said to Him, 'Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been
dead
four days.'
40
Jesus *said to her, 'Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?'
41
So they removed the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes, and said, 'Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
42
But I knew that You always hear Me; nevertheless, because of the people standing around I said
it,
so that they may believe that You sent Me.'
43
And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!'
44
Out came the man who had died, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus *said to them, 'Unbind him, and let him go.'
45
Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary, and saw what He had done, believed in Him.
King James Version
Chapter 11
39
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
40
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God
41
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 11
39
"Remove the stone," Jesus said. Martha, the dead man’s sister, told him, "Lord, there is already a stench because he has been dead four days."
40
Jesus said to her, "Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?"
41
So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you heard me.
42
I know that you always hear me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so that they may believe you sent me."
43
After he said this, he shouted with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"
44
The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unwrap him and let him go."
45
Therefore, many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what he did believed in him.
New Living Translation
Chapter 11
39
Roll the stone aside,' Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, 'Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.'
40
Jesus responded, 'Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?'
41
So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, 'Father, thank you for hearing me.
42
You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.'
43
Then Jesus shouted, 'Lazarus, come out!'
44
And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, 'Unwrap him and let him go!'
45
Many of the people who were with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw this happen.

Chapter 11
39
Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days."
40
Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?"
41
So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
42
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me."
43
When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."
44
The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

Chapter 11
39
"Take away the stone," he said. "But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."
40
Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?"
41
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
42
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
43
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"
44
The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."
45
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.
