Isaiah 66:7-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 66
7
'Before she was in labor, she delivered;
Before her pain came, she gave birth to a boy.
8
Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things?
Can a land be born in one day?
Can a nation be given birth all at once?
As soon as Zion was in labor, she also delivered her sons.
9
Shall I bring to the point of birth but not give delivery?' says the
Lord
.
'Or shall I who gives delivery shut
the womb?
' says your God.
10
'Be joyful with Jerusalem and rejoice for her, all you who love her;
Be exceedingly glad with her, all you who mourn over her,
11
So that you may nurse and be satisfied with her comforting breasts,
So that you may drink fully and be delighted with her bountiful breasts.'
12
For this is what the
Lord
says: 'Behold, I extend peace to her like a river,
And the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;
And you will be nursed, you will be carried on the hip and rocked back and forth on the knees.
13
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you;
And you will be comforted in Jerusalem.'
14
Then you will see
this,
and your heart will be glad,
And your bones will flourish like the new grass;
And the hand of the
Lord
will be made known to His servants,
But He will be indignant toward His enemies.
15
For behold, the
Lord
will come in fire,
And His chariots like the whirlwind,
To render His anger with fury,
And His rebuke with flames of fire.
16
For the
Lord
will execute judgment by fire
And by His sword on humanity,
And those put to death by the
Lord
will be many.
17
'Those who sanctify and purify themselves
to go
to the gardens,
Following one in the center,
Who eat pig’s flesh, detestable things, and mice,
Will come to an end altogether,' declares the
Lord
.
King James Version
Chapter 66
7
Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
8
Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
9
Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the
Lord
: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.
10
Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:
11
That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.
12
For thus saith the
Lord
, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.
13
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
14
And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the
Lord
shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.
15
For, behold, the
Lord
will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16
For by fire and by his sword will the
Lord
plead with all flesh: and the slain of the
Lord
shall be many.
17
They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the
Lord
.

Chapter 66
7
Before Zion was in labor, she gave birth;
before she was in pain, she delivered a boy.
8
Who has heard of such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Can a land be born in one day
or a nation be delivered in an instant?
Yet as soon as Zion was in labor,
she gave birth to her sons.
9
"Will I bring a baby to the point of birth
and not deliver it?"
says the
Lord
;
"or will I who deliver, close the womb?"
says your God.
10
Be glad for Jerusalem and rejoice over her,
all who love her.
Rejoice greatly with her,
all who mourn over her—
11
so that you may nurse and be satisfied
from her comforting breast
and drink deeply and delight yourselves
from her glorious breasts.
12
For this is what the
Lord
says:
I will make peace flow to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flood;
you will nurse and be carried on her hip
and bounced on her lap.
13
As a mother comforts her son,
so I will comfort you,
and you will be comforted in Jerusalem.
14
You will see, you will rejoice,
and you will flourish like grass;
then the
Lord
’s power will be revealed to his servants,
but he will show his wrath against his enemies.
15
Look, the
Lord
will come with fire —
his chariots are like the whirlwind —
to execute his anger with fury
and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16
For the
Lord
will execute judgment
on all people with his fiery sword,
and many will be slain by the
Lord
.
17
"Those who dedicate and purify themselves to enter the groves following their leader, eating meat from pigs, vermin, and rats, will perish together." This is the
Lord
’s declaration.
New Living Translation
Chapter 66
7
'Before the birth pains even begin,
Jerusalem gives birth to a son.
8
Who has ever seen anything as strange as this?
Who ever heard of such a thing?
Has a nation ever been born in a single day?
Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment?
But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pains begin,
her children will be born.
9
Would I ever bring this nation to the point of birth
and then not deliver it?' asks the
Lord
.
'No! I would never keep this nation from being born,'
says your God.
10
'Rejoice with Jerusalem!
Be glad with her, all you who love her
and all you who mourn for her.
11
Drink deeply of her glory
even as an infant drinks at its mother’s comforting breasts.'
12
This is what the
Lord
says:
'I will give Jerusalem a river of peace and prosperity.
The wealth of the nations will flow to her.
Her children will be nursed at her breasts,
carried in her arms, and held on her lap.
13
I will comfort you there in Jerusalem
as a mother comforts her child.'
14
When you see these things, your heart will rejoice.
You will flourish like the grass!
Everyone will see the
Lord
’s hand of blessing on his servants —
and his anger against his enemies.
15
See, the
Lord
is coming with fire,
and his swift chariots roar like a whirlwind.
He will bring punishment with the fury of his anger
and the flaming fire of his hot rebuke.
16
The
Lord
will punish the world by fire
and by his sword.
He will judge the earth,
and many will be killed by him.
17
Those who ‘consecrate’ and ‘purify’ themselves in a sacred garden with its idol in the center — feasting on pork and rats and other detestable meats — will come to a terrible end,' says the
Lord
.
