Isaiah 59:16-21
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 59
16
And He saw that there was no one,
And was amazed that there was not one to intercede;
Then His own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17
He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
And a helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with zeal as a cloak.
18
According to
their
deeds, so will He repay:
Wrath to His adversaries, retribution to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will deal retribution.
19
So they will fear the name of the
Lord
from the west
And His glory from the rising of the sun,
For He will come like a rushing stream
Which the wind of the
Lord
drives.
20
'A Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those in Jacob who turn from wrongdoing,' declares the
Lord
.
21
As for Me, this is My covenant with them,' says the
Lord
: 'My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,' says the
Lord
, 'from now and forever.'
King James Version
Chapter 59
16
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
17
For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.
18
According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.
19
So shall they fear the name of the
Lord
from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the
Lord
shall lift up a standard against him.
20
And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the
Lord
.
21
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the
Lord
; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the
Lord
, from henceforth and for ever.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 59
16
He saw that there was no man—
he was amazed that there was no one interceding;
so his own arm brought salvation,
and his own righteousness supported him.
17
He put on righteousness as body armor,
and a helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and he wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.
18
So he will repay according to their deeds:
fury to his enemies,
retribution to his foes,
and he will repay the coasts and islands.
19
They will fear the name of the
Lord
in the west
and his glory in the east;
for he will come like a rushing stream
driven by the wind of the
Lord
.
20
"The Redeemer will come to Zion,
and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression." This is the
Lord
’s declaration.
21
"As for me, this is my covenant with them," says the
Lord
: "My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and forever," says the
Lord
.
New Living Translation
Chapter 59
16
He was amazed to see that no one intervened
to help the oppressed.
So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm,
and his justice sustained him.
17
He put on righteousness as his body armor
and placed the helmet of salvation on his head.
He clothed himself with a robe of vengeance
and wrapped himself in a cloak of divine passion.
18
He will repay his enemies for their evil deeds.
His fury will fall on his foes.
He will pay them back even to the ends of the earth.
19
In the west, people will respect the name of the
Lord
;
in the east, they will glorify him.
For he will come like a raging flood tide
driven by the breath of the
Lord
.
20
'The Redeemer will come to Jerusalem
to buy back those in Israel
who have turned from their sins,'
says the
Lord
.
21
And this is my covenant with them,' says the
Lord
. 'My Spirit will not leave them, and neither will these words I have given you. They will be on your lips and on the lips of your children and your children’s children forever. I, the
Lord
, have spoken!
