Genesis 19:1-5
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw
them,
he stood up to meet them and bowed down
with his
face to the ground.
2
And he said, 'Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.' They said, 'No, but we shall spend the night in the public square.'
3
Yet he strongly urged them, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
4
Before they lay down, the men of the city—the men of Sodom—surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter;
5
and they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them.'
King James Version
Chapter 19
1
And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2
And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3
And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4
But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5
And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
The two angels entered Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in Sodom’s gateway. When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them. He bowed with his face to the ground
2
and said, "My lords, turn aside to your servant’s house, wash your feet, and spend the night. Then you can get up early and go on your way." "No," they said. "We would rather spend the night in the square."
3
But he urged them so strongly that they followed him and went into his house. He prepared a feast and baked unleavened bread for them, and they ate.
4
Before they went to bed, the men of the city of Sodom, both young and old, the whole population, surrounded the house.
5
They called out to Lot and said, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Send them out to us so we can have sex with them!"
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
1
That evening the two angels came to the entrance of the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting there, and when he saw them, he stood up to meet them. Then he welcomed them and bowed with his face to the ground.
2
My lords,' he said, 'come to my home to wash your feet, and be my guests for the night. You may then get up early in the morning and be on your way again.' 'Oh no,' they replied. 'We’ll just spend the night out here in the city square.'
3
But Lot insisted, so at last they went home with him. Lot prepared a feast for them, complete with fresh bread made without yeast, and they ate.
4
But before they retired for the night, all the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house.
5
They shouted to Lot, 'Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!'
