Romans 5:12-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all mankind, because all sinned—
13
for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not counted against
anyone
when there is no law.
14
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the violation
committed
by Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
15
But the gracious gift is not like the offense. For if by the offense of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many.
King James Version
Chapter 5
12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13
For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
12
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned.
13
In fact, sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not charged to a person’s account when there is no law.
14
Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s transgression. He is a type of the Coming One.
15
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many.
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
12
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
13
Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break.
14
Still, everyone died — from the time of Adam to the time of Moses — even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.
15
But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.
English Standard Version
Chapter 5
12
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned —
13
for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
14
Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
15
But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man 's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
New International Version
Chapter 5
12
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
13
To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.
14
Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
15
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
New King James Version
Chapter 5
12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
13
(For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
15
But the free gift
is
not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
