Proverbs 1:18-33

Chapter 1
18But they lie in wait for their own blood; They ambush their own lives. 19Such are the ways of everyone who makes unjust gain; It takes away the life of its possessors. 20Wisdom shouts in the street, She raises her voice in the public square; 21At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she declares her sayings: 22'How long, you naive ones, will you love simplistic thinking? And how long will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing And fools hate knowledge? 23Turn to my rebuke, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention; 25And you neglected all my advice And did not want my rebuke; 26I will also laugh at your disaster; I will mock when your dread comes, 27When your dread comes like a storm And your disaster comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. 28Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but will not find me, 29Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord. 30They did not accept my advice, They disdainfully rejected every rebuke from me. 31So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own schemes. 32For the faithlessness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them. 33But whoever listens to me will live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil.'King James Version
Chapter 1
18And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
20Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

18but they set an ambush to kill themselves; they attack their own lives. 19Such are the paths of all who make profit dishonestly; it takes the lives of those who receive it. 20Wisdom calls out in the street; she makes her voice heard in the public squares. 21She cries out above the commotion; she speaks at the entrance of the city gates: 22"How long, inexperienced ones, will you love ignorance? How long will you mockers enjoy mocking and you fools hate knowledge? 23If you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words. 24Since I called out and you refused, extended my hand and no one paid attention, 25since you neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction, 26I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when terror strikes you, 27when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and stress overcome you. 28Then they will call me, but I won't answer; they will search for me, but won't find me. 29Because they hated knowledge, didn't choose to fear the Lord, 30were not interested in my counsel, and rejected all my correction, 31they will eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes. 32For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. 33But whoever listens to me will live securely and be undisturbed by the dread of danger."New Living Translation
Chapter 1
18But these people set an ambush for themselves; they are trying to get themselves killed. 19Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life.
20Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.
21She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate:
22'How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?
23Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.
24'I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.
25You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered.
26So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you —
27when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you.
28'When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.
29For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord.
30They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them.
31Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.
32For simpletons turn away from me — to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.
33But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.'

21on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech:
22How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?
23Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.
24But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
25since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
26I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you--
27when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me,
29since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD.
30Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
31they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
32For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
33but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.'
