Matthew 27:11-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 27
11
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, '
So
You are the King of the Jews?' And Jesus said to him, '
It is as
you say.'
12
And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not offer any answer.
13
Then Pilate *said to Him, 'Do You not hear how many things they are testifying against You?'
14
And
still
He did not answer him in regard to even a single charge, so the governor was greatly amazed.
15
Now at
the Passover
Feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people
any
one prisoner whom they wanted.
16
And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
17
So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, 'Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?'
King James Version
Chapter 27
11
And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
12
And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
13
Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
14
And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
15
Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
16
And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
17
Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 27
11
Now Jesus stood before the governor. "Are you the King of the Jews?" the governor asked him. Jesus answered, "You say so."
12
While he was being accused by the chief priests and elders, he didn’t answer.
13
Then Pilate said to him, "Don’t you hear how much they are testifying against you?"
14
But he didn’t answer him on even one charge, so that the governor was quite amazed.
15
At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted.
16
At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
17
So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Who is it you want me to release for you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 27
11
Now Jesus was standing before Pilate, the Roman governor. 'Are you the king of the Jews?' the governor asked him. Jesus replied, 'You have said it.'
12
But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent.
13
Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?' Pilate demanded.
14
But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.
15
Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner to the crowd — anyone they wanted.
16
This year there was a notorious prisoner, a man named Barabbas.
17
As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them, 'Which one do you want me to release to you — Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?'
English Standard Version

Chapter 27
11
Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "You have said so," Jesus replied.
12
When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.
13
Then Pilate asked him, "Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?"
14
But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15
Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16
At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17
So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?"
New King James Version

15
Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to releasing to the multitude one prisoner whom they wished.
16
And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
17
Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
