Luke 9:10-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
10
When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. And taking them with Him, He withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida.
11
But the crowds were aware
of this
and followed Him; and He welcomed them and
began
speaking to them about the kingdom of God, and curing those who had need of healing.
12
Now the day was ending, and the twelve came up and said to Him, 'Dismiss the crowd, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; because here, we are in a secluded place.'
13
But He said to them, 'You give them
something
to eat!' But they said, 'We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.'
14
(For there were about five thousand men.) But He said to His disciples, 'Have them recline
to eat
in groups of about fifty each.'
15
They did so, and had them all recline.
16
And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and, looking up to heaven, He blessed them and broke
them,
and gave
them
to the disciples
again and again,
to serve the crowd.
King James Version
Chapter 9
10
And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
11
And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
12
And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
13
But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
14
For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
15
And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16
Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 9
10
When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus all that they had done. He took them along and withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.
11
When the crowds found out, they followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.
12
Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to him, "Send the crowd away, so that they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here."
13
"You give them something to eat," he told them. "We have no more than five loaves and two fish," they said, "unless we go and buy food for all these people."
14
(For about five thousand men were there.) Then he told his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
15
They did what he said, and had them all sit down.
16
Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
New Living Translation
Chapter 9
10
When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida.
11
But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.
12
Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said, 'Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this remote place.'
13
But Jesus said, 'You feed them.' 'But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish,' they answered. 'Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?'
14
For there were about 5,000 men there. Jesus replied, 'Tell them to sit down in groups of about fifty each.'
15
So the people all sat down.
16
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people.
English Standard Version
Chapter 9
10
On their return the apostles told him all that they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida.
11
When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.
12
Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, "Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place."
13
But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish — unless we are to go and buy food for all these people."
14
For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
15
And they did so, and had them all sit down.
16
And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
