Luke 23:7-19

8Now Herod was overjoyed when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hearing about Him and was hoping to see some sign performed by Him.
9And he questioned Him at some length; but He offered him no answer at all.
10Now the chief priests and the scribes stood there, vehemently charging Him.
11And Herod, together with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, dressing Him in a brightly shining robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
12And so Herod and Pilate became friends with one another that very day; for previously, they had been enemies toward each other.
13Now Pilate summoned to himself the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
14and he said to them, 'You brought this man to me on the ground that he is inciting the people to revolt; and behold, after examining Him before you, I have found no basis at all in the case of this man for the charges which you are bringing against Him.
15No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.
16Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.'
17[ Now he was obligated to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]

7And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. 8And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. 9Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing. 10And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him. 11And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. 12And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
17(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
19(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)

7Finding that he was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days. 8Herod was very glad to see Jesus; for a long time he had wanted to see him because he had heard about him and was hoping to see some miracle performed by him. 9So he kept asking him questions, but Jesus did not answer him. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated him with contempt, mocked him, dressed him in bright clothing, and sent him back to Pilate. 12That very day Herod and Pilate became friends. Previously, they had been enemies.
13Pilate called together the chief priests, the leaders, and the people,
14and said to them, "You have brought me this man as one who misleads the people. But in fact, after examining him in your presence, I have found no grounds to charge this man with those things you accuse him of.
15Neither has Herod, because he sent him back to us. Clearly, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16Therefore, I will have him whipped and then release him."

8Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle.
9He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer.
10Meanwhile, the leading priests and the teachers of religious law stood there shouting their accusations.
11Then Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Finally, they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.
12(Herod and Pilate, who had been enemies before, became friends that day.)
13Then Pilate called together the leading priests and other religious leaders, along with the people,
14and he announced his verdict. 'You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in your presence and find him innocent.
15Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty.
16So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him.'
