Chapter 23
15No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him. 16Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.' 17[ Now he was obligated to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]
18But they cried out all together, saying, 'Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas!'
19( He was one who had been thrown into prison for a revolt that took place in the city, and for murder.)
20But Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,
21but they kept on crying out, saying, 'Crucify, crucify Him!'
22And he said to them a third time, 'Why, what has this man done wrong? I have found in His case no grounds for a sentence of death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.'
23But they were insistent, with loud voices, demanding that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.
24And so Pilate decided to have their demand carried out.
25And he released the man for whom they were asking, who had been thrown into prison for a revolt and murder; but he handed Jesus over to their will.

15No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him. 16I will therefore chastise him, and release him. 17(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) 18And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas: 19(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.) 20Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. 21But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. 22And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. 23And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. 24And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. 25And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
26And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

18Then they all cried out together, "Take this man away! Release Barabbas to us! "
19(He had been thrown into prison for a rebellion that had taken place in the city, and for murder.)
20Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again,
21but they kept shouting, "Crucify! Crucify him! "
23But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices won out.
24So Pilate decided to grant their demand
25and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.
26As they led him away, they seized Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
27A large crowd of people followed him, including women who were mourning and lamenting him.
28But turning to them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children.

15Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty. 16So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him.' 17
18Then a mighty roar rose from the crowd, and with one voice they shouted, 'Kill him, and release Barabbas to us!'
19(Barabbas was in prison for taking part in an insurrection in Jerusalem against the government, and for murder.)
20Pilate argued with them, because he wanted to release Jesus.
21But they kept shouting, 'Crucify him! Crucify him!'
23But the mob shouted louder and louder, demanding that Jesus be crucified, and their voices prevailed.
24So Pilate sentenced Jesus to die as they demanded.
25As they had requested, he released Barabbas, the man in prison for insurrection and murder. But he turned Jesus over to them to do as they wished.
26As they led Jesus away, a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, happened to be coming in from the countryside. The soldiers seized him and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.
27A large crowd trailed behind, including many grief-stricken women.
28But Jesus turned and said to them, 'Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
