Luke 18:19-26
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 18
19
But Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.
20
You know the commandments, ‘DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT GIVE FALSE TESTIMONY, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.’?'
21
And he said, 'All these things I have kept since
my
youth.'
22
Now when Jesus heard
this,
He said to him, 'One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute
the money
to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.'
23
But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely wealthy.
24
And Jesus looked at him and said, 'How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!
25
For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!'
26
Those who heard
Him
said, 'And
so
who can be saved?'
King James Version
Chapter 18
19
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good none is good, save one, that is, God.
20
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21
And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 18
19
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "No one is good except God alone.
20
You know the commandments:
Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; honor your father and mother.
"
21
"I have kept all these from my youth," he said.
22
When Jesus heard this, he told him, "You still lack one thing: Sell all you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
23
After he heard this, he became extremely sad, because he was very rich.
24
Seeing that he became sad, Jesus said, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!
25
For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."
26
Those who heard this asked, "Then who can be saved?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 18
19
Why do you call me good?' Jesus asked him. 'Only God is truly good.
20
But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’ '
21
The man replied, 'I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.'
22
When Jesus heard his answer, he said, 'There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'
23
But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich.
24
When Jesus saw this, he said, 'How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!
25
In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!'
26
Those who heard this said, 'Then who in the world can be saved?'
English Standard Version

Chapter 18
19
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone.
20
You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’ "
21
"All these I have kept since I was a boy," he said.

23
When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.
24
Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
25
Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
26
Those who heard this asked, "Who then can be saved?"
New King James Version
Chapter 18
19
So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one
is

that is,
God.
20
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”

And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”

But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
24
And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
26
And those who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?”
